Ukrainian drone attacks target Port of Sochi and Moscow region, hitting residential buildings

Ukrainian forces launched drone strikes on Russia’s Moscow region and Port of Sochi on the Black Sea on Thursday morning, hitting residential buildings, a factory, and a docked naval support vessel, regional officials and Telegram channels reported.

Moscow Governor Andrey Vorobyov confirmed the attacks, saying a Ukrainian drone struck an apartment building in the town of Pavlovsky Posad. There were no reports of casualties. Residents reported hearing explosions, and the Telegram channel Astra reported smoke rising over the city near another building on the same street.

A second drone hit an apartment building on the Naro-Fominsk Highway in the town of Kubinka, Vorobyov said, sparking a fire but causing no injuries. Astra reported that the damaged building stands roughly five kilometers from the Kubinka air base.

A third drone struck a factory in the village of Bolshoye Bunkovo, in the Bogorodsky district, starting a fire, according to Vorobyov, though he did not specify which plant was hit. The village is home to several manufacturers, including the Bunkovsky Experimental Glassware Factory and the plastic packaging maker Pet.Rus. The Ukrainian monitoring channel Supernova+ reported that the strike hit the latter facility.

In Sochi, residents and Telegram channels reported an attack by naval drones on the city’s port, with video footage appearing to show strikes on a docked ship. The Ukrainian monitoring channel Exilenova+ identified the target as the Nefrit, a Russian multipurpose support ship.

In Ukraine, Russia’s carried out its seventh straight day of drone attacks on Kyiv on Thursday. It also launched a drone and missile attack on the city of Odesa, injuring at least 17 people, according to local authorities.
